Thank you CGH and many others

Over the years I’ve watched friends and acquaintances experience slow-down-and-be-patient moments due to injury or illness.

Recently, it was my turn when a cough virus exacerbated my asthma to such a degree I became a guest of Canmore’s hospital for five days and four nights.

Now that I’m home and feeling much better, I have to say a big thanks to all the people who made what could have been a miserable experience comfortable beyond any expectations.

First, thanks to my neighbours for looking after my kitty and my plants at my current home in Golden, B.C. and alleviating any worries.

Thanks to the artists who’ve made the time and effort to hang their work on the walls of Canmore’s hospital to make my hallway walks more interesting and enjoyable. Thanks also to the architects who designed the place to have plenty of windows to enjoy the beautiful views.

Many, many thanks to the person/people who have made Wi-Fi available at the hospital. For me to be able to work at my laptop and carry on with writing assignments while I was a patient didn’t just help by keeping my mind occupied, but also by giving me a bit of income peace of mind.

Thanks also to CBC for being the outstanding voice of the many corners and faces of Canada that it is - again, all thanks to an Internet connection.

A zillion thanks to my friends and family who called and visited and brought the little things that made my stay so much more comfortable - pretty cards, fresh fruit, a plant, yummy herb teas and lovely ceramic pot and cup to drink from. Many more thanks to my mom for running much appreciated errands, and especially to my sister, Daisy, for spoiling me with her spectacular home cooking.

Thanks also to my doctors for staying on top of my seemingly snail-like progress, to the lovely women who kept my room clean and to the considerate, interested, skilled and professional nursing staff whose positive vibes helped me be well enough to go home.

Together, you all made being in the hospital a downright worthwhile experience. Thank you.

Lynn Martel,

Golden, B.C./Canmore
