All too often we read about the negative aspects of life and sometimes fail to appreciate the good all around us.

Recently, my family experienced the tragedy of losing a loved one to a terrible accident. Peter Thompson was well known in the Canmore community, as well as the wider “Community of Adventurers.” Members of his family gathered in Canmore last week to mourn his passing, begin the healing process and yes, celebrate his brief but remarkable life.

Those of us who are not from Canmore were both amazed and profoundly touched by the way that your community rallied around the family to support them in our time of need.

Heartfelt thanks are owed to those selfless people who prepared food, opened their homes and created a “Celebration of Life” for Peter that was beautiful and deeply moving.

Spirit like this makes cities into towns, acquaintances into friends and friends into family. It surely exists in other communities in Canada, though I suspect one has to look much harder to find it.

Thank you Canmore for being there for my family. We will never forget the way you came together in our time of need.
