Last week, the Bow Valley Riding Association club grounds overflowed with rocks and waste when the creek east of us jumped its banks.

There are many tons of rock and debris that have covered roadways and horse paddocks. Small ravines have been created where there was once flat land. Fencing has been washed away.

We were able to move all the horses out of the paddocks that were affected and no horse was injured. However, we were left with what, at first, seemed like an overwhelming cleanup. We couldn’t access horses and their paddocks in the upper areas of the grounds and some paddocks were unusable.

We rented a small Bobcat, but it was far too small to deal with most of the mess. On Sunday, Dave Preissl arrived with a Lafarge front end loader and started to move rock from the road. He worked until well into the evening and when he finally left he had created a roadway again. He had removed rock from around horse trailers and it seemed to everyone that maybe this would all eventually be put back together.

Thank you Dave, for your time and also for letting us see a light at the end of a very long tunnel.
