Re: People’s climate march (Sept.21)

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you and thumbs up to the many who made this event a success in our town. We had 50-plus people arrive to show concern, and some great speakers who shared insights and enthusiasm for positive change.

Thanks to Karen Barkley (Global Call for Climate Action), Corrie DiManno (Banff town council), Ed Whittingham (Pembina Institute), Harvey Locke (Y2Y) and Peter Poole (Arctos and Bird).

The participants were engaged and engaging. Many stayed to have conversations with others.

Those who stepped up to the plate to make this day possible were the Town of Banff, which graciously came together from the many departments to give access to the gazebo, The Banff Centre, who supplied the sound system and setup and Banff Sign Company who generously donated material for our banner.

Our media coverage was a great contribution to the success. Mountain FM, The Crag and Canyon and the Outlook all stepped up to the plate.

In the end, over 2,000 communities worldwide held such events. The final count was over 700,000 marching for climate action. Think of those that wanted to and were unable to commit that day.

I had many people tell me after the fact that they were unable to make it, but were with us in spirit. People care. Keep active. Make your voices count. Get involved.

Karen Thomas,

Banff
