The 2013 YWCA Banff Walk a Mile in her Shoes campaign officially wrapped up last week and on behalf of our team, I’d like to thank the communities of Canmore and Banff for the incredible generosity and support that we received.

While domestic violence is an uncomfortable and challenging topic, Walk a Mile takes a light-hearted approach to help increase awareness and understanding about the seriousness of this issue. I am proud that over 150 men came out to demonstrate their commitment to help stop domestic violence in the Bow Valley.

The tremendous involvement from hundreds of supporters and spectators, IODE Banff, our volunteer team and the Banff Community High School Drum Line generated some amazing energy for the day.

Congratulations to Vance Alexander, Darryl Zimmer and Brodie Cassell; our three top individual fundraisers and to the Charlton Bears and the Town of Canmore, who were the top team fundraisers.

We are also grateful to the many businesses that provided much needed financial and in-kind assistance. Walk a Mile raised $55,000 that will help to fund local preventative domestic violence programs and services. In addition, one walker was moved to further donate $20,000 for overall support to the YWCA.

With grateful hearts, thank you for choosing Banff Walk a Mile and the YWCA.
