I’m writing to provide some clarification on Elevation Place. It is the hope and desire of the Town that Elevation Place be embraced by residents and visitors alike.

To date, the response to purchasing a community membership has been strong. Residents who plan to use the facility on a regular basis are finding great value in becoming members.

At the same time, we have been hearing some concerns about drop-in pricing for residents. We do understand the concerns being expressed and want to ensure that taxpayers are provided with pricing options that will meet their needs. We are now clearly seeing that residents wish to access the facility in a variety of ways, including a strong desire for casual or drop-in use. I want to assure the community that we are listening and will be responding.

We are researching and evaluating a number of pricing options based on the feedback we have received. What we need is time to do the analysis and consider what offerings would work best to complement the membership model.

While it may seem like a simple thing to just change the pricing, it’s not as easy as it appears. Community membership and attracting daily users to Elevation Place is essential for the long-term sustainability of the facility. We have to address drop-in pricing without compromising membership. We also are working flat out to move in, commission the facility and hire and train new staff.

For those with affordability concerns, our fees and rental rates provide discounts for children, youth, students and seniors. We have a fee assistance program for those who need financial support to be able to purchase a membership. There are also options for term or seasonal memberships, as well as the ability to put a membership on hold if a member will be away from town for an extended period of time.

As I write, Town staff are beginning the process of moving in to Elevation Place and planning for a fantastic community grand opening celebration.

A firm date for opening will be announced to the community soon. When we open, we will be offering three free weeks for everyone to explore and experience Elevation Place.

Those who have pre-purchased memberships will not begin to pay until the three-week-free period is complete. We know that the success of community membership sales to date together with the need for casual drop in rates indicates that residents are getting excited to use Elevation Place. We look forward to seeing you there.
