It is Thursday, June 23, 8:30 a.m. and I am driving back from the Cougar Creek dog walk.

I cross the train tracks at the Spring Creek entrance and, looking both ways as I normally do, see three tweens... ear buds plugged in, texting, merrily chatting, walking along the railway tracks into town... oblivious to anything.

Eight minutes later, I’m back in my condo and hear the train go by heading west. I hope they heard it too.

Parents... do you know where your kids are? When will we “get the message”? Kids versus trains is a bad mix.

Happily, the train did not come to a screeching halt, nor blow its horn this time… so I assume the tweens I observed made it safely to wherever they were going. Whew!

I just wish that the angst this community is showing about the bunny cull could be directed at the safety of our children instead.

Got the message? I certainly hope so.
