Three Sisters Development: The proposed Three Sisters Development needs to be scaled down.

Regardless of the allowable density to full build-out, it doesn’t follow that it is in the best interests of this mountain community or the Bow Valley. Canmore is known to place a high value on conservation of finite and sensitive natural resources.

These values bring more and more people to this narrow corridor. A development of this magnitude does not serve the Canmore community. No approvals can be given unless the remaining, workable wildlife corridors are established.

There are the usual net gains, but also, net losses. We are at that tipping point in terms of more gas emissions, more hikers/bikers, more water useage, more traffic congestion, more wildlife encounters, more required services, i.e. bylaw/police, ambulance/fire, Fish and Wildlife, more pets, more infrastructure – more, more, more.

There is an intangible net loss to the soul and spirit of the valley and the community. As Reno Sommerhalder put it – (Outlook, March 28) – this patch of wilderness will be destroyed. We risk losing a vibrant landscape to one similar to parts of Europe; sterile and devoid of wildlife, birds and other fragile ecosystems.
