One of those is at Gap Lake on the 1A Highway.

The area contains a natural salt lick important particularly to the mountain goat and it is also adjacent to a bighorn sheep sanctuary on leased Crown land – approved leased land – for a wildlife sanctuary.

So the 20 plus campers every night are impacting wildlife habitat big time, along with other concerns like increased risk of wildfire and no services available (no water, washrooms, garbage disposal).

Problems like this don’t disappear when they are being pushed a little further down the road.

It’s all one valley, and needs to be managed as a full unit. Nothing is for free, there is always somebody else (or something else) paying for it.
