Voting change needed

It was disappointing that our local MP chose not to even attend the all-party debates. That set the tone for the election in 2015 as well.

In that election, I was very encouraged that all the major parties but one committed to a fair vote – my vote would count in future. I volunteered many hours to get out the vote among young Canadians, help elderly Canadians get registered, and knock on doors talking to people.

We heard very clearly the interest in electoral reform so our votes would count. There was so much hope. And then we won with 63 per cent of the vote across the country going to parties supporting electoral reform.

We still hadn’t seen our local MP, but we were finally going to get a voice in Ottawa with the election in 2019.

What a betrayal when the prime minister tossed aside his promise, repeated during the election, and again in the throne speech, that we would have electoral reform by 2019.

I urge you to write, email or call the prime minister, Minister Gould, and our local MP. Remind the Liberals of their promise and assure them this betrayal will be an election issue in 2019. Addresses and phone numbers are readily available online. Letters by post office do not require stamps.
