'Significant’ snowfall to hit Banff, Canmore, K-Country

Snow is coming to the Bow Valley and Kananaskis.

BOW VALLEY – The first “significant snowfall” of the season is expected to hit central and southern Alberta Sunday evening (Oct. 22) with “higher amounts” possible for the Rockies.

Powder will fall until Tuesday (Oct. 24) in Banff National Park, Canmore, the MD of Bighorn, Kananaskis Country and Stoney Nakoda, according to an Environment Canada special weather report.

The report said central Alberta could have up to two to five centimetres of snowfall, southern Alberta could have up to five to 15 cm, and higher amounts are possible along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains and in mountain parks.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” the report said. “Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”
