BANFF – YWCA Banff CEO Connie MacDonald is leaving the organization effective Dec. 31, 2020.

The organization's board of directors announced her resignation last week after MacDonald spent seven years in the position working "diligently to transform the organization."

"Her collaborative approach, updated programs and services, commitment to financial transparency and stability, and a relentless focus on attracting and retaining the best talent have helped the organization to thrive. Connie is leaving YWCA Banff well positioned for the future,” said board president Salina Riemer in a press release.

“We have been fortunate to have had in Connie an incredible leader, a woman with vision and the skills to execute. She will most certainly be missed and many of the projects that she has initiated during her term, will continue to serve the Bow Valley community for decades to come.”

MacDonald accomplished a lot during her tenure with the non-profit organization. Under her leadership, the YWCA Banff has established Bridge House to help those escaping intimate partner violence, launched the Harmony Project and the sexual violence response program, and most recently helped establish an affordable rental housing project – the Courtyard Project – to name only a few programs and initiatives she spearheaded.

MacDonald said she is proud of the work she has been a part of to bring the organization to where it is today.

"My early days were not always easy, but gradually we have built a cohesive team, with a clear vision resulting in significant growth,” said MacDonald.

“We have solid plans for the future and despite COVID-19, I’m confident that with the priorities we’ve identified, steady support from the community, government and numerous agency partners, and a little flexibility, the organization will continue to evolve to meet the needs of women, families and our community well into the future. This is the ideal time for new leadership and energy.”

Riemer said the board has approved a new strategic plan and is confident the next leader for the organization will be well placed to continue its work.

"The board has set up a hiring committee and will begin recruitment shortly," she said.
