STARS airlifts injured skier to Calgary hospital

“Paramedics treated and transported an adult male to the Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff where they were met by STARS air ambulance who then transported the patient to Foothills Medical Centre,” said Shane Paton, a spokesperson for Alberta EMS.

BANFF – STARS air ambulance airlifted an injured skier to a Calgary hospital on Tuesday (Jan. 18).

The STAR-1 crew flew to Banff Mineral Springs Hospital to rendezvous with local Banff Emergency Medical Service (EMS).

“We are responding to reports of a male patient in his 30s who sustained traumatic injuries while skiing,” said Deborah Tetley, a manager of external relations and marketing for STARS.

A spokesperson for Alberta Emergency Medical Service (EMS), said crews responded at approximately 3:30 p.m. from Banff to Sunshine Village for reports of an injured skier.

“Paramedics treated and transported an adult male to the Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff where they were met by STARS air ambulance who then transported the patient to Foothills Medical Centre,” said Shane Paton, a spokesperson for Alberta EMS.

There are conflicting reports on whether the man was a skier or snowboarder. The condition of the injured man is unknown.
