For the first time in at least two decades, the Bow Valley area is dealing with a physician shortage and housing appears to be the main culprit.

Banff council has given nod of approval to display a large blue and yellow ribbon – the colours of the Ukrainian flag – in front of Banff Town Hall.

“Of 19 municipalities who responded to Town of Banff inquiries, nine indicated they were never again going to conduct a municipal census, six were waiting until 2023 and four were moving forward with a census in 2022.”

“I believe it’s appropriate to go to an investigator first and not to have a complaint about the code of conduct for elected officials go through an administrator or go through council,” said Banff Councillor Chip Olver.

“Our communities face unique challenges when it comes to affordability and access to programs that foster positive mental and physical wellness. Financial assistance for programs like these provide healthy experiences and help promote positive outcomes at the community level.”

“It took a lot of courage for them to step back and reconsider the approach and I want to commend them for taking that courage and coming up with a new approach that’s going to feel better for the whole town.”
