BANFF – The town of Banff is known for its community Christmas cheer. A slate of events is scheduled every year to help bring people together in celebration of the holiday season.

“That means a lot to me,” said Rev. Howard Thornton. “That even if I can’t be with them in person, we’re still able to share in some way, and I’m just wanting to encourage people, maybe, that they might find some hope and some happiness at Christmas if they can’t be with their children in person."

“It’s not like we’re talking about putting somebody on the moon here, so it’s not out the question,” said Darren Enns, the director of planning and development. “It’s just how do we do it safely, and how do we not be detracting from the experience of the pedestrian zone.”

“I am really hoping and begging Banffites to please, please follow the guidelines as set out by public health authorities. We saw how quickly it can spread throughout our community," said Coun. Corrie DiManno.

When COVID-19 cases in Bow Valley spiked at the beginning of December, a grassroots volunteer effort – Three Communities: One Valley – began to help those in quarantine or isolation by picking up and delivering things like mail, groceries and medications.
