CANMORE – Canmore RCMP are investigating a suspicious incident at Elizabeth Rummel Elementary School on Friday morning (March 8) while students were being let out for the day.

According to a press release, at approximately 11:50 a.m., a young girl exiting the school through the back doors was approached by a strange man, who told her to go with him.

According to the police, the girl walked away and got on her school bus in front of the school. The suspect is described as wearing a dark green and dusty hoody with the hood up, black jeans with rips at the bottom of the legs and on the back, black sneakers with white soles and black and white shoelaces. He is described as having short brown and straight hair, wrinkles, fair skin and could be between 40 and 50 years old.

Because the incident occurred at the end of the day, RCMP believe other adults and parents would have been in the area and witnessed something. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to contact Canmore RCMP at 403-678-5519, or Crimestoppers at 1-1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at Crimestoppers.ca.

The RCMP added they would like to remind parents to discuss safety practices with their children when it comes to speaking to strangers and people they don't know.
