CANMORE – The entire Bow Valley woke up Friday morning (Oct. 25) with multiple weather warnings from Environment Canada in effect.

For Canmore, the wind warning was issued at 4:27 a.m. and forecasts wind gusts of up to 100 km/h in the valley, as well as thorughout southwestern Alberta throughout the day, easing off in the later afternoon.

According to Environment Canada, wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damage as a result. Wind gusts can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings, as well as tossing loose objects, which can cause injury or damage.

For Banff, the snowfall warning issued on Thursday forecasts amounts of up to 10-15 centimetres from a developing low pressure centre that is expected to bring snow to parts of west-central Alberta throughout Friday.

According to Environment Canada, the precipitation will start out as rain, but change to snow by the early afternoon as temperatures drop.

There are also snowfall warnings in place for Banff National Park and Lake Louise. Snowfall is expected to lighten by the end of Saturday (Oct. 26).

As a result of snow accumulation, highways, roads, sidewalks and parking lots may become difficult to navigate. Motorists are advised to prepare for quickly changing, or deteriorating conditions.

Environment Canada issues snowfall warnings when significant snowfall is expected.
