“People like the idea of not seeing a line. We would consider burying lines, but if we’re going to do that the cost is significantly more than leaving them overhead. It’s generally in the range of 10 times more for the project, so those additional costs – since we’re doing this on behalf of the ratepayers – we would ask the stakeholder to put up their remaining portion of the cost to underground the line.”

RCMP advised motorists to expect delays with a temporary planned closure of a roughly 16-km stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway in Yoho National Park near Field in both directions on Wednesday for avalanche control work.

“These programs were well used and have been impactful in our community. They supported families in these stressful times and provided a place for children to go and parents to have their questions answered. Children had opportunities to gain and maintain social skills in a time of isolation and parents had a safe space to drop off their child so they could manage some of the stress in their life. These services have been available to families when they have most needed it.”

“We have seen a big increase in people who worked in the service sector, be it hotels, restaurants, retail, who had time to reflect on their work and they’re calling us and saying they want to work with a career coach to look at their options."

With a series of infrastructure projects on the horizon, elected officials in Canmore are looking at a potential capital budget of $27 million in 2022.
