Last week on Dec. 16, Treaty 6 became the third group of First Nations to sign a protocol agreement with the Alberta government in 15 months. The agreement sets out how the province and the nations will work together to address economic and social issues.

Treaty Six First Nations and the provincial government have signed an agreement that will open the doors for ministers, chiefs, and councils to sit together regularly to discuss important issues like healthcare, education, and economic development.

EDMONTON — To Terri Suntjens, symbolism means everything. That's why she decided to get involved with the City of Edmonton's initiative to rename its wards.

The Calgary-based singer-songwriter grew up in the Métis settlement of Paddle Prairie in Northern Alberta as part of a tight musical family who loved riding horses, trekking out to the bush, and playing country songs together in their down time.

Since March, Chief Allan Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation says there has been an increase in young people in Fort Chipewyan that have died from alcohol abuse. To compare, no one in the community has died from COVID-19.
