The past year was a busy year for residents of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, the MD of Bighorn and Kananaskis Country.

The Fortress Larches and Fortress Ridgeline tours are Ranger-ATV-assisted tours designed to allow visitors easy access to the Alberta backcountry, which began operations at Fortress Mountain Resort in mid-August

When COVID-19 cases in Bow Valley spiked at the beginning of December, a grassroots volunteer effort – Three Communities: One Valley – began to help those in quarantine or isolation by picking up and delivering things like mail, groceries and medications.

“You might ask how can such a big machine like a train be difficult to detect? But when trains are travelling downhill, they can be surprisingly quiet, especially if they are coming around corners."

It is illegal to park along the side of a provincial highway, however that has not deterred Albertans flocking to outdoor recreation destinations like Gap Lake – which resulted in a multi-vehicle collision along the 1A Highway on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 28)

Some of the inflatable decorations include Disney characters, Marvel characters, Santa and his reindeer, Snoopy flying a biplane with a propeller that spins and a 16-foot tall penguin and nutcracker

“For me it felt like something was missing from that project. Seniors are an important part of the community and they were unable to be included at the time so my goal was to have them engage with the community again.”

“If we see increasing COVID cases going into hospital, the only way to provide the space to care for them is to stop doing other services … Albertans who need other care could end up having their health conditions worsen as these COVID cases rises."
