EDITORIAL: Discussing the lack of housing – specifically the affordable kind – in the Bow Valley can quickly sound like a broken record.

A newly-formed Kananaskis Improvement District council committee has been given the go ahead on its mandate to explore public transit options in Kananaskis Country.

Stories of the Land provided a unique opportunity for cross- culture and disciplinary collaboration between Îyârhe (Stoney) Nakoda First Nation members, Bow Valley-based scientists and environmentalists, and the arts community. 

According to police, Kyleen Annette Hunter, 16, was last seen at a residence in Morley (Mînî Thnî) approximately one week ago and has not been heard from since Jan. 25.

“Through our conversations already, we know that cougars don’t know our human boundaries. We feel like the next natural step is to partner with the MD of Bighorn so we can have access to more community members, install more trail cameras and make a bigger impact in this project.”

“This is the first step in a much bigger process of really nailing down our capital assets, understanding what’s there, what we need in the future and how we’re going to pay for them. This just isn’t an area that we’ve done a lot of digging in the past … But this is kind of front-end stuff because we have to pass a budget at some point.”

“The donation will also afford all students to access the Outdoor Learning Centre program. Part of the donation, $325,000, goes to the Outdoor Learning Centre to use to engage our grade 9 students in locally-developed courses such as winter travel 15, wilderness first aid and water experience 15.”

“This isn’t creating so that there will suddenly be mini-malls. It is creating two big steps instead of three big steps for any potential persons that are interested in these kinds of endeavors to proceed with.”
