I am running to continue the work that we began with Inspiring Hearts & Minds. This whole child approach to student learning has become our practice in the division and enhancing student engagement in their learning while providing support to teachers and administrators has been both exciting and rewarding. We have seen the completion of Phase 1 of the Banff Elementary School and I look forward to seeing Phase 2 competed in the near future. While the division continues to see declining enrolment we need to advocate for a funding formula that addresses these challenges and provides the necessary funding to ensure that our children receive the broad programing required for their success.

I have made my home in Banff and raised my family here and firmly believe that the strength of our community lies in the quality of education we provide to all our students. I will work to support our children, their teachers and families to ensure success for all.

In addition to the need for a funding formula review, we need to ensure that our schools are safe and welcoming places for all children and that we provide the opportunities children require to be confident and resilient as they work towards their goals.

The greatest challenge for the district is the funding provided by the provincial government which is based on a per pupil allocation. We have seen a trend of declining enrolment in the Bow Valley and the current funding formula does not adequately address the costs associated with meeting the educational needs of all students- supporting English language learners, children with diverse special needs, supporting the social/emotional health of children while addressing the increasing costs of maintaining and operating safe buildings. The provincial government is provides the vast majority of the funds used to support the district and although Canadian Rockies continues to try to find new revenue the challenge is great.
