Bad move

Tourists get too close to a bull elk as it wades through the Bow River to avoid their approach in Banff on Thursday (May 19). This is exactly the behaviour wildlife managers warn against as it stresses animals and could result in someone being trampled, kicked or gored. Three bus lengths away is the recommended minimum distance wildlife should be viewed from. As well, cow elk have young calves at this time of year and can be dangerous if approached as they will protect their young.
