Banff names committee and board members

Banff politicians have appointed new members to the municipality’s public committees and boards. At the Oct.

Banff politicians have appointed new members to the municipality’s public committees and boards.

At the Oct. 26 annual organizational meeting, Steve Beaton, Richard Church, Jay Harris, Raymond Horyn and Paul Lake were appointed to a one-year term on the Municipal Planning Commission.

Appointed to the Development Appeal Board are David Bayne, Barry Kelly, Dak Kerr, Scott McElhone, Barbara McNeil and Christopher Wong for a one-year term.

Mayor Karen Sorensen said she was impressed by the number of people wanting to serve on public committees, noting there were 29 applications.

“It is really great to see the number of applicants we did and the quality of applicants are exceptional,” said the mayor. “It’s always really hard to, frankly, eliminate people when so many are stepping up to serve on these committees.”

Cam Fisher was named to the Banff Community Art Committee for a three-year term.

Herb MacAulay and J.S. Ryu were appointed to three-year terms to the Banff Heritage Corporation board.

For the next three years, Kevin Driver, Richard Maisonet and Christopher Thorburn will sit on the board of directors for Banff Housing Corporation.

Parks Canada appointments were also made.

Sylvanna Hegmann is Parks Canada’s representative on the Municipal Planning Commission and Sheila Luey and Kendra Van Dyk sit on the Development Appeal Board. Parks Canada’s representative on the Banff Heritage Corporation is Susan Kennard.
