Castle Mountain campground in Banff National Park has been closed until further notice due to a black bear displaying “bold behaviour” in the area.

The area closure, just off Bow Valley Parkway northwest of the Banff townsite, went into effect Wednesday (June 8).

The audacious black bear made contact with a car and damaged a tent in the campsite on June 7.

Campers were relocated to another campsite.

Violators choosing to ignore the closure might be charged up to a maximum $25,000 under the Canada National Parks Act.
