In Canmore, John Borrowman returns as mayor after garnering 2,862 votes to challenger and former councillor Ed Russell's 1,567 in Monday's (Oct. 16) municipal election.
Joining Borrowman will be councillors (by number of votes) Jeff Hilstad (2,516), Joanna McCallum (2,475), Vi Sandford (2,341), Esme Comfort (2,209), Rob Seeley (2,177) and Karen Marra (2,094). McCallum, Sandford, Comfort and Seeley return, while Hilstad and Marra will be first-time councillors.
"I am really impressed with the Canmore voters; that there was such a strong turnout, that really says a whole lot about what is happening in Canmore," said Borrowman.
"I have to say we had a really strong mandate for the council we just finished, and for the work we have been doing. It is great the four incumbents were returned and I think the two new councillors are fabulous, they have been working hard and they have been attending council meetings for a long time.
"This is a very good council and a council that has been elected to continue doing the work that this past council has been doing, it is a very strong result."
Election results show that 4,500 of 9,000 eligible voters turned out to cast their vote.
The above results are unofficial until noon on Friday (Oct. 20).
