weekend robbery at the Francis Cooke Regional Landfill is being investigated mere weeks after a fire destroyed buildings and equipment.

A temporary building was broken into and equipment and material stolen on Sunday (Dec. 14), according to Bow Valley Waste Management Commission.

Landfill service to customers has not been disrupted by the incident, said Paul Ryan, board chair for Bow Valley Waste Management Commission (BVWMC).

“It is the landfill’s fourth break-in in four months,” said Ryan.

A blaze at the landfill last month completely destroyed buildings and equipment and is still under investigation.

RCMP said it appeared the main administration office had been broken into prior to the blaze.

As security at the landfill remains an issue, Ryan previously stated BVWMC administration might seek to upgrade to new buildings. He expected BVWMC would have to dip into its reserve funds to support a decision for improved buildings.
