Canmorites won’t have to walk far to get this year’s Walk a Mile special brew.

Grizzly Paw, along with partners Banff Ave. Brewing Co. and Canmore Brewing, are creating a special treat at the Grizzly Paw’s downtown pub location to raise awareness about the Bow Valley Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.

The annual Banff YWCA event is coming to Canmore on Sept. 15, but the promotional beer is on course to be tapped by Labour Day.

“Beyond just raising money, which is incredibly important, this is also really symbolic of the community coming together,” said Banff YWCA marketing and communications manager, Carla Snow.

The Bow Valley Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event is a fundraiser held to support the Banff YWCA’s efforts to stop domestic violence and provide resources to those affected.

The yearly brew has proven to be popular with Bow Valley residents. “We have folks every year asking what the brew is going to be,” said Snow.

“It’s something they have come to expect as part of the event and we love it.”

This year’s brew is a fruit forward beer using blackberries and other fruits along with some fruity dry hops.

“We always try and make it special,” said Meesh Lamarche, lead brewer for Grizzly Paw.

The Walk a Mile event gives the local brewing community an opportunity to come together in a fun and meaningful event.

“Having a different kind of motivation to approach a beer with, and trying to gather all of our collective experiences together into a brew, makes us think about things a little differently.”
