Several local non-profit organizations will benefit from the Town of Canmore’s community grant program this year.

At its final meeting in June, council voted to approve the delivery of this year’s community grants to 14 local non-profit groups.

Manager of community and social development Lisa Brown presented recommendations on the grant recipients from the Community Grant Committee.

The community grant program was established to provide funding to Canmore-based non-profit organizations for project-based initiatives in sport, recreation, parks, arts, social service and the environment. Additionally, this year council approved a community safety grant to be funded through the photo radar reserve to the tune of $10,000.

The grant committee evaluates applications for grants based on several criteria, including whether a project will benefit residents of Canmore or enhance the community in accordance with the Town’s strategic plans; ability to complete the project within 12 months; innovation; budget and whether or not an organization is eligible for funding from other grant programs.

Of 18 applications, 14 were recommended to council for approval. The total budget for community grants, other than the $10,000 for community safety, is $30,000.
