A new marketing company in Canmore is hoping to get businesswomen in the community together for a thought provoking and inspiring event.

Fourge will present Collision on Dec. 2 with an aim to build and strengthen Canmore as a dynamic and innovative community.

Tara Kabatoff said the idea for Collision started when she moved to town three years ago and wanted to find a networking event for young professionals.

When she began putting together Fourge with business partner Stephanie O’Brien the idea was resurrected and the first event was held last month.

“The name is inspired by a friend of mine and the thought is there is a collision of ideas and thoughts and skills that people can share to walk away with new vision or new ideas,” Kabatoff said.

The first event involved a service swap where business owners could pitch their services for a chance to swap with another for similar value. Kabatoff said the success of creating a new service trading economy through the process.

“Because our community is so close and supportive, yet also a little bit spread out, (this is a way to) bring the community closer in the business world so they know who is out there and who to reach out to when they need help,” she said.

The service swap is at the end of Collision, which will change each event. For the Dec. 2 meeting, the theme is women inspiring women. O’Brien will offer advice on how to raise brand awareness and how to be heard on social media.

There are also two keynote speakers: Linh Huhnh and Mary Tidlund of the Mary A Tidlund Charitable Foundation, which supports 75 programs in 24 countries, including medical clinics, school and playground construction, meals for the homeless, water and micro finance.

Huhnh is the first Canadian woman to run a marathon on both the North and South Pole, the first Canadian woman to run the four deserts – a series of 250 kilometre, self-supported races. She is an explorer, extreme athlete, writer and motivational speaker.

Both will share their stories of personal and professional hurdles and offer inspiration and guidance for achieving goals.

The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Murrietta’s and entrance is $20, which includes a drink. Go to www.fourgemarketing.com/collision for more information.
