Canmore Fire-Rescue's response area now officially includes the most recent development to be built in the MD of Bighorn - River's Bend in nearby Dead Man's Flats.

Canmore council voted in April to amend its mutual aid agreement with Bighorn for fire and rescue services to include River's Bend and the Limestone Valley subdivisions.

Canmore and the MD's current five-year fire response agreement has been in place since 2012, but since it was signed, the two new subdivisions received development approvals.

Chief Administrative Officer Lisa de Soto told council with occupancies beginning to occur in those new areas, the MD has requested the agreement be amended to include them.

“The subdivisions are now receiving occupancy and people are moving in,” she said. “From my perspective, there would be no reason not to amend the agreement.”

The agreement sets out how much Canmore charges the MD of Bighorn for first response by its fire department. Canmore is the first responder for Harvie Heights, Dead Man's Flats and Lac Des Arcs. The MD of Bighorn's fire department responds to calls in Exshaw and the eastern areas of the district.
