Climber dies in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

KANANASKIS - A 58-year-old Calgary man died while climbing in the backcountry near Rawson Lake in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, June 3. The man stumbled on snow and ice and fell approximately 50 feet to his death around 3:45 p.m.

The man stumbled on snow and ice and fell approximately 50 feet to his death around 3:45 p.m.

Kananaskis Emergency Services was contacted and Alberta Parks responded.

Once on scene, first responders determined the man died as a result of the fall and subsequently contacted the Kananaskis RCMP to assist.

The name of the man will not be released and the accident is not a criminal investigation.
