The 2016 Alberta Bikes Conference is being held in Canmore next month and organizers hope to attract attendees that represent a diverse cross section of the cycling community.
The fourth annual conference is being held Sept. 17-18 at the Bill Warren Training Centre at the Canmore Nordic Centre. It features discussion about best practices in cycle tourism and active transportation, as well as how cycle tourism can act as an economic driver.
Conference director Carly Lewis said it is aimed at all bike enthusiasts, from road cyclists to mountain bikers, and is an opportunity for everyday cyclists to meet industry, government and advocacy representatives and discuss ideas and strategies for advancing the future of cycling in Alberta and Canmore, more specifically.
“We encourage everyone interested in improving and expanding the biking community in Alberta to attend this conference to help shape the evolution of the cycling industry in our province,” Lewis said. “The wider the variety of topics and people in the room, the more ideas and solutions emerge for long-term economic growth and active transportation.”
Canmore is at the heart of cycle tourism in Alberta, and with the recent development of the high Rockies Trail and popularity of the Legacy Trail, it is the ideal location to hold the conference.
The conference’s volunteer organizing committee hopes to build a broad network of advocates, entrepreneurs, industry professionals and everyday cyclists and contribute to the sustainable growth of Alberta and its cycling industry.
