The creative folks over at artsPlace in Canmore are offering a series of events April 15-21 in celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Week.

With a goal of raising awareness and providing support for people to think, act and live creatively, three free events are planned to get community members to express themselves in new ways, find new solutions to old problems, create new opportunities and overcome barriers.

To kick it all off there is a celebration of Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday on Friday (April 15) with a family-friendly party from 7-9 p.m.

Young innovative students will present their inventions, sketching, collage-making and poetry writing will be experienced and tips offered on how to think like da Vinci and apply your genius to your projects and life.

On Monday, (April 18), the community forum Bring Your Ideas is being held from 7-9:30 p.m. Through the idea swap workshop, participants will walk away creatively richer, have met new people, shared new ideas and hopefully discover new processes to advance creative thinking.

Those who attend will present their ideas to at least three different people who will provide feedback – allowing participants to workshop their ideas. Pre-registration for the event is required.

Finally, artsPlace presents Admit It. You’re Creative on Thursday (April 21) from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop for exploring the nature of your creative process is from various points of view and will be led by Felicity Edwards and World Creativity and Innovation Week founder Marci Segal.

Pre-registration is required for the workshop, which will help you gain insight and inspiration to move forward using new tools, approaches, practices and mindsets to help free your thinking to create new futures.

Segal is a Canmore resident who, in 2001 after reading a Globe & Mail headline announcing creativity in Canada is in crisis, decided to call attention to and celebrate creativity in everyone. As a creativity expert, she is the first have an undergraduate and masters in creativity and change leadership.

The event began as a single day celebration on April 21 and soon grew to a weeklong event beginning on da Vinci’s birthday celebrated in over 50 countries.
