Bar manager – Moose Hotel

I have been serving the public here in Banff for the past twenty years in hospitality. I work at the Banff Lodging Co. - Pacini. Over the years I have worked at Silvertip, The Elk, The Gate and the Banff Springs before that. I have likely cooked your dinner, served your lunch or poured you a beer a time or two.

I am a person who enjoys being busy and often lend my time to the many sporting events that make Banff a great and animated place for our locals and guests. Whether it be for, Mels road race, hockey tournaments, bonspiels or golf tourneys, I have always liked to be involved and doing the work it takes to make these events happen.

Twenty years

I want to bring my can-do enthusiasm to give back to the community that has been so good to me over the years. I want to tackle the issues that face our community. I want to restore the public trust in our council. I think it is time to put our residents and future residents first. We have proven to be a great destination for visitors time and time again. In our warm welcoming hearts, it is difficult for us to imagine putting ourselves before our guests. We live in a true slice of paradise and among the hardest working people I have ever met in my life. I believe that our town council should be their voice.

I am relentlessly dedicated and passionate that we live in one of the greatest places in the world. I may not have the greatest resume or educational background for this job. Truth be told, I am not really much of a political type. I do however bring a wealth of energy and expertise in problem solving. For every issue there is a solution that will fit for our residents. These solutions might be costly or it might have its down sides but we owe it to the Banff of the future to take a responsible approach.

Addressing our housing crisis is of my utmost concern. Preserving our quality of our mountain lifestyle for our residents. Maintaining the good work and ingenuity of the previous councillors that have brought us Roam Public Transit, the Pedestrian Bridge, Banffs Skate Park and so many other services to be proud of.

We are at a critical stage in planning for our communities future. Making Banff a viable place for people to live, work, play, raise a family, invest and maybe someday retire. Peoples' needs change and grow with time. I want to ensure that we are making decisions that protect our way of life for the future. With responsible planning we can keep the integrity of our community. We need to look to our past and see the hows and whys of the years of planning before us. We have a chance to learn from the mistakes of other tourist destinations and keep Banff for the honest and hard working individuals that have put so much into it. I don't want to see our home become a place for only the super wealthy. I want Banff to be a reasonable place for our transient population to consider when setting down roots in our community. I don't want the people that have lived here and put their heart and soul into Banff to have to leave because they can't find suitable accommodations. I want to ensure that when decisions are made for the future of our town that our intentions are to benefit the residents first as well as our businesses, as well as our park and as well as the visitor.

I am looking forward to meeting members of the community and addressing their concerns. I am still planning a campaign site. You can reach me via email [email protected] or hop on the Facebook page or @davedicksonforcouncil
