Derailment at Field under investigation

The cause of a freight train derailment in Yoho National Park late Saturday (March 5) is under investigation.

The cause of a freight train derailment in Yoho National Park late Saturday (March 5) is under investigation.
A spokesperson for Canadian Pacific Railway said a westbound freight train derailed five empty grain cars about four kilometres east of Field, B.C., near the west entrance to the lower Spiral Tunnel, at approximately 11:50 p.m. The line reopened Sunday.
“The cars remained upright,” said Salem Woodrow, CP's public affairs and communication advisor. “There were no injuries and no public safety concerns.”
Woodrow said all the necessary precautions were taken as crews responded to the derailment.
“The cause is under investigation,” she said.
Tania Peters, a spokeswoman for Parks Canada, said the agency got the call about 1 a.m. Sunday, and helped assist with temporary traffic delays on the Trans-Canada Highway so CP crews could remove the derailed cars.
“There were no public or environmental concerns,” she said.
