A 42 year old man drowned in Upper Kananaskis Lake, Saturday (July 26).
According to RCMP, at about 1 p.m., police were dispatched to the lake for a report of an unconscious male who had been pulled to shore at Upper Kananaskis Lake.
The man had been kayaking when he was observed by witnesses to be in distress. Members of the public assisted and pulled him to shore and performed CPR on him.
STARS ambulance attended, however, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident, the second this summer at the lake, remains under investigation.
On June 10, the body of a drowning victim was recovered.
According to RCMP, at about 6 p.m. on June 9, people on the lakeshore heard screams for help from someone about 200 metres offshore. A bystander swam out to try and assist, but when the location of the person screaming was reached, the bystander couldn’t find him.
The bystander then swam to a nearby island, where he was lifted off by helicopter.
RCMP, STARS, Alpine Helicopters, conservation officers and public safety specialists all took part in a search using aircraft and vessels. At the time, a kayak and flotation device were found in the area.
Northern Underwater Systems divers from Calgary were then contracted to search the waters of the lake and on June 10, located the body of a 31-year-old male.
