Field without power after snowstorm

The village of Field just on the other side of the B.C. border is completely without power after BC Hydro's distribution line suffered damage on Sunday (Nov. 9) as the result of the first winter storm to hit the region.
East Kootenay community relations manager for BC Hydro Diane Tammen said the weather continues to hamper efforts to fix the affected line and poles damaged about four kilometres from the west end of the Yoho National Park entrance.
"The weather right now is making it very difficult," Tammen said. "You can't have people trying to work when the trees are falling down around them, so they are needing to be very careful and continue to make the repairs as they can."
She said the extensive damage affected one area and 20 spans - the distance between two poles - with one broken pole, five with broken crossarms and another 12 with either wires down or glass insulators broken.
Tammen said repairs require coordination with CP Rail to access the site, "but we do have to stop work from time to time so they can get off the tracks and safely let the train traffic through.
"Right now we are expecting (power to be restored) perhaps by 8 p.m. tonight is the estimate, but again it is all going to be dependent on the weather, crew safety and access to the damaged area and coordination with CP Rail."
