More money for transit projects in Banff and Lake Louise is coming this way.
Last week, Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission (BVRTSC) received news of almost $1 million in additional grant funding through the provincial government’s GreenTrip funding.
It includes $35,000 for design and implementation plan for a Banff to Lake Louise bus service, $266,667 for Banff’s hybrid bus refurbishment and $666,667 for more bus shelters in Banff, as well as improvements for others.
Davina Bernard, BVRTSC chair, said funding allows for continued expansion of transit options and improvement of transit infrastructure in the Bow Valley.
Parks Canada is running a transit bus this summer between Banff and Lake Louise, but this recent provincial funding, which is on top of a $35,000 federal grant, allows BVRTSC to look at a more permanent solution for traffic congestion in Lake Louise.
“This allows us to nail down what’s required, what the buses will be, how many buses, what the route will be, what times will be. All kinds of specifics need to be flushed out,” said Bernard.
“This is part of the longer-term plan to have full services in the Bow Valley from Lake Louise to Canmore.”
