Parks Canada is looking for help with the restoration of the Big Beehive gazebo overlooking Lake Louise.
Frank Burstrom, who is part of Parks Canada’s restoration team and was a third generation park warden, said he is looking for photos taken before the 1960s that would help the team finish the project.
The rustic gazebo-style shelter at the top of the Big Beehive was built in 1917. It is thought to be one of the oldest log structures of its kind in Western Canada. Though somewhat obscured by trees, there are spectacular views over the Bow Valley and Lake Louise.
“We started the log structure in October and we’re not quite finished, but there are some outrigger poles there that I don’t believe are part of the original structure,” he said.
“I’m looking for pictures that are pre-1960s that might give me some clues. I’m hoping the public can help with some photos so we can finish off this restoration work.”

“We’re starting to restore some of these structures and do some work to preserve that important history,” said Burstrom.
“It’s quite exciting to me because I don’t want to see some of these historic structures gone.”
