The house a man was killed in last month was destroyed in a fire late Monday (Feb. 1) night and RCMP investigations are underway.

At around 10:45 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to a house fire in Morley on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The house was vacant at the time of the incident.

“We’ re treating it as a suspicious fire with the background of the house,” said Cochrane RCMP Sgt. Jeff Campbell.

On Jan. 26, RCMP major crimes revealed that the death of 28-year-old Wilfred Junior Amos of Morley was a homicide.

Amos was pronounced dead at the scene at the residence on Jan. 22.

Police did not reveal what led to the incident or the cause of death.

Gavin Bearhead, 30, of Morley, faces manslaughter charges and made a court appearance on Feb. 2.

The fire was officially out at about 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 2, said Exshaw Fire Chief Rick Lyster, and the house was a “total loss.”

The blaze didn’ t affect any other residences or structures.

Cochrane RCMP is seeking assistance from the public on the matter and can be contacted at 403-851-8000.
