A man escaped from his burning motorhome this morning (June 20) and RCMP seek public assistance in its investigation.

A 32-year-old Red Deer man, and lone occupant, awoke to his vehicle being torched after he parked off Highway 1 in front of an abandoned former gas station covered in graffiti near Highway 40.

Cochrane RCMP responded to the incident at approximately 2:30 a.m.

The man advised RCMP that he woke up to unknown person(s) in proximity to the motorhome and it had been set on fire.

The man was transported to hospital with unknown injuries.

All that remains of the vehicle is a crisp skeleton and a pile of burnt rubble.

The matter is currently under investigation and police report that an alleged “explosion was heard in the area.”

Police received assistance from the RCMP Police Dog Service as well as Calgary Police HAWCS helicopter to search for possible suspects.
