A man in his 30s was rescued in Banff National Park last week after being “cliffed out” and having to spend the night on a mountain ledge.
According to Parks Canada, the man was stranded on Wednesday (Nov. 9) trying to scramble northwest face of Mount Fairview in the Lake Louise area.
The man was “very cold, but otherwise OK” when he was heli-slung from the area at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday (Nov. 10),” wrote Tania Peters, Parks Canada spokesperson, in an email.
“As it was after dark Parks Canada conducted a ground search of the area and was able to locate him but could not reach him due to the technical terrain and darkness,” Peters wrote.
“The man spent the night on a small ledge under an overhang, above a 100 (metres) overhung cliff.”
Parks returned to the area at first light with an Alpine Helicopters rescue pilot and conducted a technical helicopter sling rescue.
