Moving on in valley

It’s been a sweet ride, but it’s time for me to hang up my boots.

In 2001, Carol Picard, Larry Marshall and Bob Schott dreamed up the Rocky Mountain Outlook and I was persuaded to help launch the upstart privateer newspaper.

Preparing for a Sept. 20 kickoff, we, like everybody else, had our socks knocked off by the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the U.S., and in the proverbial dust that settled we rolled out a newspaper.

Well, 15 years of shaking off the dust has taken its toll, but for the most part I’d describe the journey as good entertainment. For good or for bad, I’ve been blessed with a front row seat to an amazing assortment of life’s events. It’s been something of a never-ending backstage pass.

Working for the Outlook as a photojournalist has been an amazing opportunity, not only professionally, but personally.

Taking pictures in one of Mother Nature’s grand achievements has been a treat to say the least, yet meeting and working with an endless flow of inspirational people has been equally enjoyable.

I wouldn’t even know where to start if I were to write a list of the cool folks to have graced the pages of the Outlook throughout the years. To have had a few moments with so much good energy has definitely added to the jump in my step.

Athletes, artists, politicians, business people, educators, first responders and pilgrims young and old, it has absolutely been my pleasure to meet you all and I hope to see you again some day soon.

To all the co-workers and industry colleagues throughout the years, I thank you all. The “media industry” is a crazy gig and I tip my hat to everyone who has shared in this with me.

At the end of the day, though, let’s face it, family is number one, and I am taking a wonderful opportunity to make a move to achieve our family goal of staying in the Bow Valley.

Fortunately, I have found an opportunity to develop professionally within the photo world locally, and will be managing professional photo services for Banff Photography. We’re easy to find. Say hi sometime.

To everyone who has ever stuck one of my photos on your fridge, two thumbs up.
