Canmore's Civic Centre is expected to be closed for approximately four days to cleanup flood damage caused by a burst pipe overnight.
Town of Canmore spokesperson Sally Caudill said it is not known at this time when the pipe burst, but it was first noticed around 2:30 a.m.
Caudill said a PVC pipe in the women's washroom is what burst and water built up in the washroom for a while before flooding the building and the surrounding streets with water.
"Right now there is no water left in the building and we have companies like McKnight and other flood recovery companies in there with de-humidifiers," she said.
For Friday (Jan. 31), the Civic Centre is closed and it is uncertain if it will be open on Monday (Feb. 3). The water levels in the reservoir were also affected, meaning residents may notice a loss of water pressure.
Caudill said staff are still assessing the extent of damage, but at this time there is no email, phone service or updates to the Town website as a result of the flood.
While several streets in the downtown were closed in the early morning hours, as of noon only Sixth Avenue between Main Street and 10th Street was closed. Streets and roads crews have been out clearing the water and ice that built up as a result of the flooding.
