One Canmore neighbourhood has a politically powerful new resident after Premier Alison Redford and her family bought a home in the community.

The premier’s press secretary confirmed Redford and husband Glen Jermyn are now second homeowners in town

Mayor John Borrowman said he has been encouraging residents of Canmore to give Redford and her family space to be members of the community.

“One thing I have been saying all along with people, and frankly I have been encouraging people to downplay this, it can’t hurt to have the premier of the province to be an enthusiastic and involved member of our community,” Borrowman said. “I would never presume to think there would be any special treatment; it doesn’t give us an extra channel into the higher level of government.

“But it is nice in the same way it is nice to have everyone here being enthusiastic and involved.”
