Canmore RCMP are looking for suspects involved in two separate shoplifting incidents in the community over the past week.
Last Thursday (Jan. 9), at 4:30 p.m. officers responded to an attempted shoplifting incident at Unlimited Skate and Snow on Main Street.
According to a media release, a man entered the store and appeared to be casually shopping when staff became suspicious of him after seeing him place an item in his bag while he was near the GoPro display.
While the man continued to look around the store staff discovered a camera missing from the display when they noticed the anti-theft device locking the GoPro had been cut. As the suspect left the store, a staff member chased him and he dropped his bag containing the GoPro near the corner of Main Street and Seventh Avenue.
The suspect is described as having a European accent, Caucasian, 25 to 35 years old, short clean cut hair, large nose, six foot three to six foot six inches tall, wearing a black hoodie and grey jeans.
Meanwhile on Friday (Jan. 10), RCMP were called to the Shopper’s Drug Mart just before 6 p.m. for another shoplifting incident.
Shortly after 5 p.m. two males entered the store separately. The first approached staff about returning items he allegedly purchased at the store while the second entered the electronics section and took two Acer laptops, removing the anti-theft devices from them. That suspect then fled from the store on foot, setting off the alarm and while staff investigated, the first male took two Nintendo DS devices and fled on foot as well.
The first suspect is described as being Caucasian, with short dark hair, slim build, six feet tall, wearing a black hoodie, down filled black winter jacket with brown fur around the hood, blue jeans and construction style boots.
The second suspect is described as being Caucasian, with short dark hair, slim build, between five foot six and five foot nine inches tall, wearing a black baseball cap with a while logo on the front and back, a white baggy T-shirt with writing down the left side, grey jacket, blue jeans and Timberland style boots.
It is believed the pair were working in conjunction in order to distract staff and commit the thefts.
Investigators urge anyone who may have information regarding the identity of the suspects to contact Canmore RCMP at 403-678-5519. If you wish to remain anonymous, report it online to Crime Stoppers at www.tipsubmit.com or call 1-800-222-8477.
