Santa's Anonymous events kick off the holiday giving season

The Banff Royal Legion is set to host its 15th annual Santa’s Anonymous Auction and Dance, featuring music by Gary Beatty, Larry Olsen, Shane Coultis Sr., Tim Jeffery, Jeff Naffin and special guests.

“The auction and dance takes place this Saturday (Dec. 3) from 4 to 11 p.m. (minors allowed till 10 p.m.). A Christmas meat draw will also take place during the evening from 4 to 7 p.m. A children’s Christmas sing-along will be held with David “Swanee” Swanson will take place at 6 p.m.,” said Coultis Sr.

“The early bird auction draws will take place between 6 and 7 p.m., with the live auction beginning at 8 p.m.”

There is no cover charge for the event, and burgers are available throughout the evening until sold out for $5.

The community is encouraged to make donations for the silent and live auctions right up to the start of the event. Monetary donations to Santa’s Anonymous are also welcomed onsite during the event. Other events taking place throughout the month of December include:

Saturday, (Dec. 3) – A Whyte Christmas Open House - Free. Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies – 1–4 p.m. Enjoy carols, crafts, cookies, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa. Bring the whole family. Financial donations accepted for Santa’s Anonymous.

Dec. 12–18 – Sally Borden Drop-In Fitness Classes. Get fit for Santa. Join any of the Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation regular drop-in classes. Also Spin for Santa on Dec. 12-15 and Boxing FITness on Dec. 7. These classes are free with a cash donation for Santa’s Anonymous.

Monday, Dec. 12 – The CP Holiday Train arrives at the Banff Railway station starting at 7 p.m. The Banff Food Bank, in partnership with Santa’s Anonymous, will collect food/cash donations. Come on down for hot chocolate, see Santa and rock to Dallas Smith and The Odds.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 – Toonie Ski Day at Banff Mount Norquay. Come and ski all day for only a Toonie. Cash donations can be made to Santa’s Anonymous.

Until Thursday, Dec. 15 – Santa’s Anonymous Air Canada Foundation Raffle. Tickets 1/$20 or 3/$45. Win two Air Canada North American economy tickets (sun destinations include the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii). Tickets available at Banff Town Hall. Some restrictions may apply.

Until Friday, Dec. 16 – 106.5 Mountain FM Christmas Toy Drive. ATB Financial at the Cascade Plaza and Banff Town Hall – 106.5 Mountain FM wants to ensure that every child in the Bow Valley has a present under the tree this holiday season. Donations of new, unwrapped toys accepted at the above locations. Looking for gifts for children ages zero to 17.

Wednesday, Thursday, Dec.14-15 – Banff Community Christmas Concert at Eric Harvie Theatre at the Banff Centre – All tickets are free and must be reserved in advance. Enjoy an evening showcasing Banff’s local talent. The Air Canada Foundation Raffle winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 15.
