Santa's Anonymous still needs hamper funds

Banff’s Santa’s Anonymous campaign continues to raise funds to round out its hamper program for this holiday season.

Requests for 120 hampers are in this year, down from 135 last year, and the campaign has $26,000 in hand. The financial goal for this season is $45,000.

This is the first year the local charity is asking for monetary donations rather than food donations in an effort to purchase healthy food hampers, and it still needs funds.

“There are a lot of staff parties this week,” said Santa’s Anonymous coordinator Alison Milroy, “and many of them do 50/50s to raise funds. Plus, our Air Canada Foundation ticket draw is Thursday (Dec. 18) and that usually brings in $10,000.”

Milroy is a longtime volunteer with Santa’s Anonymous and said the campaign often needs until the last minute to round out its hampers.

“People are so busy at this time of year that it sometimes gets left to the last minute.”

Orders for hampers have been placed, though, and they will be put together on Dec. 21, while volunteers will deliver the Santa’s hampers on Dec. 22.

Tickets for the fourth annual Air Canada draw of two tickets to any Air Canada scheduled destination in North America, including Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean (some restrictions apply), are $20 (or three for $45) and available at Town Hall.
