Banff RMCP are investigating two separate sexual assaults in the townsite last weekend and are asking anyone with any information to come forward.

The incidents were against women in their 20s who work in the area. In both cases, the woman had been walking alone after a night out, said RCMP.

On Friday (June 24) at approximately 1 a.m., a woman was confronted by an unknown man who fled after allegedly sexually assaulting her near the bridge on Banff Avenue.

The man is described as Caucasian, tall, with blonde hair and in his mid-20s.

Later the same day, just before midnight, a woman was approached by an unknown male who allegedly sexually assaulted her near Lynx and Caribou streets.

The man is described as black and 5-foot-6-inches tall.

Police have no information whether these assaults are linked.

“It’s a concern to us that two incidents like that were in such close proximity to each other,” said RCMP Sgt. Stan Andronyk.

“These incidents have happened and we’re encourageing people to be aware of their surroundings and take precautions to be safe.”

A press release on the incidents was issued Tuesday (June 28) after RCMP gathered enough information in an initial investigation.

Banff RCMP are seeking any public assistance on the matters.

“We’re seeking information on the incidents and asking if anyone has information, and if there are any nesses, to come forward,” said Andronyk.

Anyone who may have information that might assist in these investigations is asked to contact Banff RCMP at 403-763-6600. If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), by Internet at www.tipsubmit.com, or by SMS (check your local Crime Stoppers www.crimestoppers.ab.ca for instructions).

On Monday (June 27) at about midnight, an unknown male driver was “persistent” about a lone woman in her 20s getting inside his vehicle along Spray Avenue in Banff so he could “drive her home.”

She refused and arrived at home safely. Police said it was unrelated to the two alleged sexual assaults, but the matter is under investigation.
